My last body of collages responded to the surrounding environment of living in NYC and uses my everyday experiences as a starting point and the material with which I work. I collect fashion magazines from the street and transform those manipulated and unreal images into an even more artificial, but absolutely different narrative from the one that they were made for. By giving them a different meaning, in the context of my compositions, I evoke the metaphor of the different readings we have of reality, depending on what we want to read, see, accept or not. Often these are framed instances that would go unnoticed in their original context. By demonstrating the omnipresent lingering of a ‘corporate world’, my works reference big corporations’ power as well as post-modernism resistance against the logic of the capitalist market system. I try to approach a wide scale of subjects, in a multi-layered way, in order to involve the viewer in a way that is sometimes physical and a belief in the idea of function, following form in a work.
